Die A Legend - these guys have got some balls, as witnessed by the above track, Die A Legend. Not for the first time I’m gonna write “Norway may be most well known for its black metal scene but the hardcore scene there’s also alive, well & pouring petrol on the flames of it’s own making”. Or words to that effect anyway. Dunno what they’re putting in their porridge over there but it’s producing some great music atm.

A bit more riff laden than most of your Norwegian hardcore it might well put you in mind BANE (eyes down for the 2nd July @the fleece kids) or maybe even Converge, altho having said that spiel I’ve read about them suggests they sound “strangely un-norwegian with a heavy influence of both 90s swedish hardcore (Breach, Raised Fist, early Refused)”.

They’re putting out an EP / Album called Progression Through Retrospection on June 12th on Badlands Ent. No physical release confirmed yet o/s of their home country but if any record labels reading this fancy doing something about that I’m sure they’d be well up for it.

Message them on Facebook if you like, or just like them on Facebook if you, message want.

And here’s one more track fer ya ….

DIE X LEGEND - HATERS GONNA HATE (music video) from Badlands Entertainment on Vimeo.

This muthafucking beast of a rip snarling god forsaken “crush all that get’s it’s way” S/T’d 6 track single just won itself a physical release. Albeit bereft of the final track. Despite that though it’s still got the power to proper crush all that gets in it’s way AND FOR THAT VERY REASON you’re advised to track down a copy asap yo.

Is by relative newcomers on the scene False Light (est 2012 their arsebook says) & is released by the joint might of Headfirst!, Dead Chemists & Downside. Majoring in the grandest grinding powerviolence, this probably comes in somewhere near the top of the list (still a figment of my imagination) of the filthiest music I’ve ever thrown your way, and by dint of that very same fact it’s also near of the top of that other list (also a figment of my imagination) of best music I’ve ever thrown your way.

Tracking down physical may be tricky, suggest you start with the band & work outwards via labels ending up at the powerviolence swap shop (yep, also a figment of my imagination). You want digital you can either grab shit from False Light’s bandcamp for 7 of their US dollars or (and I’m presuming this is straight up, if not someone tell me quick & I’ll take the link down) you can click on this mediafire link which I got off the band’s aforementioned arsebook page & grab shit for nowt. The choice, as they say, is yours.

Test of Time

Newish straight edge band hailing from Boston. The band feature ex No Harm Done, Offsides, Make or Break, The Effort members.

They say they had “a desire to form a band that was different than what was currently dominating the Boston scene” & they may well have done so but in the process have formed a band that sounds like one of the most straight down the line old school early 90’s straight edge HC band you’re ever likely to hear.

And speaking as someone who fucking loves “old school early 90’s straight edge HC bands” I gotta tell ya, I fecking love this.

Before I go though here they are covering a Germs track:

These guys are fecking ace. Rocking it BCHC style. Somehow I’ve always missed them when they’ve played live here which is a bummer. Their latest EP (EP 2013) is being given away for free from their Bandcamp. Do yerself a favour & go grab it from here.

After a pretty slow year for Bristol hardcore releases last year this year’s shaping up quite nicely.

Bad Policy EP by Dead Trend

<>

Apparently one of the bands members wrote a book or co wrote a book about Double Nickels on the Dime (obviously still the best album ever released).

I wouldn’t go as far as to say you can see a Minutemen influence here (but you can).

This is Dead Trend’s debut EP. It was originally released 4/1987 & has been recently re-boshed out there.

Nervous Impulse - Wasted Time

New Nervous Impulse y’all! Reeks of a band who’ve devoured the whole discographies of Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat etc.

Raw, fast, and full of caustic anger, it’s proper DC-area hardcore / punk so it is.

One of those moments when Soundcloud finishes playing one track & starts playing another, one which turns out to be even better than the first cuz it samples Bad Brains.

I know, spooky how often that happens yo?

Had a fucking belting good time at Trapped Under Ice last night. So fucking pumped after it I must’ve cycled home in half the time I normally do. Not a duff band on the bill, was good to see Broken Teeth again who seem to have come along A LOT since last I saw them (fuck me, why do websites like Louder Than War go on about fucking Stone Roses & Oasis all the time when they could be going on about Broken Teeth), a couple of local abnds & another from the US.
Think at one point we had 15 guys / gals two step moshing AT THE SAME TIME! I know, in a venue the size of the Fleece! Normally you’d need at least the size of a football pitch for 15 people to two step mosh & it not to end up with blood everywhere!
Such a huge bummer TUI are taking a time out. Way gutted. We may be in the midst of the best year for album releases this century but other music news is just one long litany of shit followed by arse followed by wank followed by bolloacks (sic). Not cool.

New on the mighty Dischord - Red Hare, Be Half. New album (Nites of Midnite) out soon (May 21st) co-released with Hellfire,

The band is basically a continuation of the late ’80s D.C. hardcore band Swiz.

The members have also played in Bluetip, Retisonic, Dag Nasty, and Sweetbelly Freakdown.

Good stuff.

Plaids - Twelve

There’s something wrong with a world in which something this awesome can have been on Soundcloud for 4 days & has still only registered 125 plays.

Rattly old school Wire meets Minutemen is awesome. Short, fast songs & hollered vocals. Love it. They’re off on tour soon & typically aint coming anywhere near Brizzle. Jeez, I dunno what’s happening to the city this year, so many bands skipping it.

They have an ep out soon, a split with equally good band Football, Etc. Both from Nottm. The city’s on a roll atm.
