These kids have been causing a bit of a storm at the present. And for good reason. They play fast. And distorted. You can feel them hitting things as they’re playing. Random things. Like each other. Or like you. Yeah, you, with the power of their fucking shitstorming music.

God I bet the pit’s a wonderful but exhausting place to be at one of their shows. God I want to be at one of their shows. Real, real soon. Maybe even in the pit. If I suitably forget about those 8 (or is it 9?) spinal fractures I’ve already had.

The band’s led by Meredith Graves and her bandmates “moonlight in grindcore, powerviolence, noise, and indie rock bands”. You can tell, it’s like early Wavves pushed to as many extremes as you can push it too. Way out.

God I hope they never go limp on us like so many bands of this ilk do. They won’t will they? Nah.

These guys, Baxter Stockman, have just released a brilliant album called Punter. Truly founded in the “post-no wave early to mid ’80s era” of big black, buttonhole surfers et al it kicks like you’ve never been kicked before and grips you by the throat like a motherfucker too.

A strong Finnish three piece who play harsh, dissonant and noisy rock music I was hooked from the get go. The press release name checks Rapeman too - and you’ll know why when you check it out.

"While Baxter Stockman respects its predecessors, it takes a thorny path of its own."

Like all right thinking people I was devastated to hear that Divorce have called it a day. Possibly the band I’ve included on here more than any other it’s not a good thing. Sure, new bands will no doubt arise from their ashes but for now lets just be a bit sad.

But not too sad as they decided to chuck their latest offering up on their bandcamp to downlaoded for whatever amount you chose. I chose to give them quite a bit and recomend you do too. Adios Divorce, as gammy wee bands go you were the gammiest.

The new (and pretty great) album from Mutation came out yesterday. The band features members of The Wildhearts and Napalm Death, along with a slew of guest musicians including Merzbow & Mark E Smith. Melodic AND brutal the album’s billed as “the next step in the evolution of extreme music”.

This video was made on the day Mark E Smith visited the studios and, in true Mark E Smith style, was fucking class, scaring the bejusus out of everyone. Dude’s a dude.

There’s a review of the album up on ltw: http://louderthanwar.com/mutation-error-500-album-review/

found footage video by Vania Jaikin Miyazaki

Went to the Bristol UK leg of this on Weds, was an incredible night, a roomful of dancing people all dancing like they’d never danced before - all in the name of striving for the elusive one-eight-nine bpm.

They said “shangaan” and we said “electro” quite a lot too.

Believe they’re playing Bring To Light festival c/o the Supersonic people this weekend - if you’re in the Brum neck of the woods you’re encouraged to hop along.

Strikes me catching these guys live is a thing that must be done in the next year. Stark industrial electronica in a similar vein to Haxan Cloak but not quite so spare or intense.

Wow, fucking LOVING this. Hammerhands covering two songs released in 1995. If this aint the very definition of gnarly as fuck I dunno what is.

The two songs? Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘XYU’ and PJ Harvey’s ‘To Bring You My Love’, respectively.

Awwwwwwwl riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Holy ‘crushing the living shit out of two songs you thought you knew quite well but turns out you don’t’, Batman. etc etc etc.

This was single of the day yesterday (or some time anyway) on Everett True’s website Collapse Board. He, in turn, swiped it from The Vine.

‘Shark Week’ – the latest track from Brooklyn trio, Hand Job Academy – is a rap about women and their periods. It is 3 minutes and 47 seconds of hip hop hilarity featuring a human biology lesson bridge and rhymes featuring the words “masturbate” and “Sharon Tate”. The MCs also drop the word “Kotex” in similar ways the likes of Jay-Z and co use luxury brands and Champagne shout outs in their ditties.

Youtube, being the women fearing douche’s that they are banned the video. Considering the amount of hate filled sexist shite you can find there that should be surprising. Of course, though, it’s not. So until Vimeo chicken out and pull it too share this fucker as far and as wide as you possibly can.

" It’s not just about periods. It’s about owning your period." Uh huh.

Still a bit gutted I couldn’t get to either Rival Mob / Mind Eraser shows last week but someone set up a two camera rig for the Sheffield gig and grabbed both sets in full. Fucking A. Rival Mob above, Mind Eraser below.

Totally unlike being there of course but still pretty sick all the same.

Went all the way to Cardiff on Saturday ostensibly for Sŵn Festival but also, y’know, coz clipping. were playing. Had a decent time all round and saw some great bands (This Is Wreckage probably being the highlight although Summer Ghost were pretty rad too as was Nadine Shah) but frankly clipping. wiped the floor with them all. Still can’t believe the buggers got me waving my hand in the air. I never wave my hands in the air. They were everything I was expecting from them x ten. Sadly they clashed with about 8 other shows I wanted to see (and therefore I guess a lot of other people) but they still played to a packed room (which must’ve had a 300-400 capacity) and I’ll warrant they totally made some new fans while there.
Incredible job - introduced myself afterwards and am pretty fucking convinced they had no idea who the feck I was but that’s par for the course. I guess I must have some enunciating prollems when it comes to shouting “Louder Than War” in peoples faces”
There’s a review of the whole day up at Louder Than War which includes pertinent bits a good paragraph about clipping. Fuck off HERE (and scroll 2/3rds of the way down to find the pertinent bit) if you wanna read.

The above by Banksy (of course), part of his “better out than in” artists residency in the streets of New Yoik.

The video’s the killer as you can hear the squeaks & bleats the animals are making, but the best is left to last - check out the expression on the babies face. Heartbreaking.
